A Walk in the forest – Short Fiction

He stumbled across the red toy bus, five minutes walk into the forest. It was quite surprising considering no kid should ever have had to come into this forest.

He stood thinking over this. It was then he spotted a small shoulder bag, off the beaten path lying under a tree.

He walked towards the bag to inspect it.

Something sure did look fishy.

Another minute’s walk ahead took him to a clearing in the woods.

There it was.

A badly decomposed body of what could be an eight year old.

He had to walk all the way back to the car to get signal on the phone to call the police.

By the end of the day, the police and forensics team uncovered another 17 bodies of children around the same age group.

“Red toy” killer as he was called, woke up next morning to the news in the paper regarding the police knowing about his “sacrifice field”.

Things are going to be difficult now, he thought to himself as he headed to the basement.
