Airplanes – Short fiction

Airplanes were always a thing if curiosity for me when I was a kid. I mean, how could such a heavy thing just fly?

For the longest time, I believed it was magic that fueled the flight and the pilots, magicians.

That was what made me think of making humans fly. People said only things with wings could fly. Like the birds.

That made me think, what if? What If, we could grow wings?

By no means was that an easy task. But I set to the task at the age of five.

Sure, I knew nothing about the world then. But by the time I was 23, I had set up an experimental lab in the remote mountains of the Rolins Ranges.

We stumbled on something. Before we could move ahead, we had to test it on a live species. As usual, guinea pigs were tested on. For the first 52 days of the potion being ingested, nothing really happened. Day 53 was a day of breakthrough.

What we found was close to magic. Very close.
